…Pescosansonesco is an eagle’s nest, incredibly built on a cliff,

       seemingly inaccessible…

                                           Gabriele D'Annunzio

(famous Italian poet and Abruzzo’s native son)

Pescosansonesco

Pescosansonesco  500 m/ 1,640 ft above sea level, in the high Val Pescara and inside Gran Sasso/Monti della Laga National Park. As soon as you arrive, you can’t help but be fascinated by the view of the fortress hanging from the cliff, a lasting testimony of the landslide that divided Pescosansonesco in the ‘30s.

Famous for its sanctuary, the village is divided into two parts:  the old suburb, “Pescosansonesco Vecchio,” and the new village, “Pescosansonesco Nuovo,” which was rebuilt some 3 km/ 1.8 miles away, in the so-called “Ambrosian”region.

Yet with its unique location in the heart of Gran Sasso National Park and its proximity to Highway A25 - only about 9 km/ 5 ½ miles from the nearest entrance - the Rifugio Valle Grande is easily accessible from all directions.

    How to reach us

  • By car : Take Highway A25 towards Rome, exit at Torre de’ Passeri, and then follow the signs for about 9 km/5 ½ miles until you reach Pescosansonesco Nuovo.
